Mikumi National Park — Tanzania
Wildlife guide

A different view of Mikumi

Look beyond the horizon. Mikumi’s giraffes, open grasslands and acacia country reward a slower kind of game drive.

Mikumi brings wide grasslands, seasonal pans and woodland into one varied landscape. Giraffes share this habitat with animals including zebra, buffalo, elephant and wildebeest. The open country gives a game drive a generous sense of space.

Look at the habitat, too

A giraffe photograph can be more than a close portrait. Leave room in the frame for the trees, grass and sky that place the animal in its surroundings. Watch quietly and let the scene develop rather than asking the vehicle to move closer.

Make time for the smaller discoveries

Mikumi also supports a rich variety of birds. Ask your guide to pause at suitable viewing points and explain how seasonal water and vegetation shape what you see. Each outing reveals a different part of the park.
