Mikumi National Park is known for the Mkata floodplain, framed by hills and woodland. Giraffes, zebras and other plains wildlife make game drives rewarding, while the wider landscape links the park with southern Tanzania’s mountain and wilderness areas.
Mikumi can stand alone as a short safari or form part of a longer southern route. Pair wildlife viewing with the forests of Udzungwa, or continue toward Ruaha when your travel time allows.
Best time to visit
Wildlife viewing is possible across the seasons, with access and grass cover influenced by rainfall.
